I recently updated my version of malware bites to the latest one. today, I restarted my computer only to find that JAWS wasn't speaking. However, when I used my other screenreader I discovered that jaws was indeed running just not talking. Turning off malware bites enabled jaws to begin speaking again. has anyone else had this issue?

Wel using Jaws15 and windows 7, I ran malware bytes. apparently this is coming up as some sort of trial. I cant get jaws to read anything with it, but I'll have a sited person look at it tomorrow.
Are you running malwarebytes premium? I don't have mine set to start with my puter.
I might have to switch. Damn shaim too cause I liked malware bytes.
MS SE is good but doesn't catch everything. no anti spyware program does though.

Ok, well we can forget using malwarebytes.
This latest version doesn't work with jaws at all.
Its been suggested that Super Antispyware is a good alternative.

Write to them and tell them the issue and see what response they give.
I don't personally use it, but if you want to, no harm asking for a fix.

Tha'ts a good idea Wayne.
I loved malwarebytes and would prefer to use that over anything else.

I'm not a premium member, so I cant.
I just checked into this.

I knew that the latest version was inaccessible, but because I was warned of it, I never updated, so I didn't know specifically what was wrong. I know many blind people are writing to them, and I am planning to as well. I'm hoping to get some more info from friends in the adaptive tech industry so I can include specifics about what they broke and how, and also some suggestions as to what they can do to fix the issues.

For some reason super anti-spyware decided to be a pain in the ass to install as of late, at least with jaws. When I press enter on the run button on the .exe file, it just says something something checkbox checked, and that's all. Pressing the space bar does nothing, nor does the jaws cursor.

I take this is the free malware bites issue because the pro works find if you use the jaws "mouse" cursor.

Post 10 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 18-Apr-2014 22:34:15

ok but how did you find a way to write them ?
cause don't you have to be premium to write them?
I did just install super antispyware but I'd prefer to use malwarebytes.
what version is the one that is before this that works well with jaws. I'll get the older version someplace, but need to know what version that is.
I also don't know anything about what is wrong with the latest version, other than jaws reading nothing.
I don't know what kinda constructive thinsg to say other than this doesn't work with my screene reader. might you be able to get together with FS
to help fix this issue?
or point out which version worked well.

I did not write any scripts, I just use the jaws cursor to use malware bites.

You have to go to the ignore list tab in malware bytes, hit the add button, and go to the freedom scientific directory. Depending on what version of windows you're running, go to jfw.exe and hit enter on it, and it will come up talking from then on.

which older version is the one before this that is the one I need to grab.

I heard from a zone member that the next version of malwarebytes will fix the screene reader issue. This is verifiable (direct from their twitter feed the info pasted below...)

@Malwarebytes No accessibility improvement yet? #a11y

Malwarebytes ‏@Malwarebytes · Apr 5
@smartguitar1 The screen reader issue is scheduled to be fixed in 2.1.

I'd not want to be using an older version of a program like this, so it is good they are doing something about it.
These programs are meant to be updated, or they aren't as effective.

I believe you can still get the new defanitions, so at least th'ats something.

Post 18 by Senior (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Tuesday, 22-Apr-2014 12:25:51

I recommend downgrading to 1.75 until it is fixed. 1.75 is still updated every day.

Post 19 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 22-Apr-2014 14:52:42

meaning that yes, you still get the latest defanitions even though you are using an older version of the program.

Is the latest (accessible) upgrade available yet?

Post 23 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 14-Jun-2014 17:51:49

No. I don't expect it to happen until version 3 comes out.

ah, that's why I couldn't get it to work, when I downloaded the latest version.. I have sofos... which works, sort of... it's a shame, cause I really loved Malewhere bites, too. hopefully they get this accessibility issue fixed. thought it was just my computer--I'm running windows XP and jaws11, I know, I know, I know... but if it aint broke then I'm not fixing it lol. and+ I've heard that the latest versions of windows aren't as user friendly with jaws as XP. so anyways, hope this new version is released soon!

Look through the topics on the geeks board, you'll learn much about how Jaws and newer versions of Windows work.

Post 26 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 24-Jun-2014 8:04:17

and I can assure you they do work, and work much better than XP ever could.
